FAQ
What is the common way of getting equipment from Raytel Equipment?
Most customers purchase a truck from a dealership and the dealership salesperson will arrange the purchase and installation of equipment with Raytel Equipment. Fleet buyers might deal directly with Raytel Equipment when they have purchased their own fleet trucks.
What information do I need when finding out what I can put on a truck?
Raytel Equipment needs to know the year, make, model, and cab-to-axle (CA) measurement of the truck to determine what equipment can be installed. A cab-to-axle measure is the distance from the rear of the truck cab to middle of the rear axle. This measurement is important for calculating how weight will be distributed to the axles.
What limitations are there for installing equipment on a truck?
Raytel Equipment is certified by Transport Canada to finish incomplete vehicles (cab-and-chassis). This means that all trucks completed by Raytel Equipment must meet regulations and codes. That means:
- Raytel Equipment cannot install anything that will cause the truck to exceed its GVW.
- All completed trucks must have a safe and legal weight distribution to prevent braking, tire, or transmission problems.
- Installed equipment must comply with truck manufacturer specifications for electrical wiring and compressed air systems.
- All equipment must meet lighting, safety marking, and cargo securement regulations in Canada.
Why can't I put a deck on my truck larger than Raytel recommends?
All installations done by Raytel Equipment must comply with Transport Canada code. Installing an oversized deck is illegal and dangerous, as it exceeds the manufacturer's ratings for the truck. Raytel Equipment recommends moving to a larger truck to accommodate the desire for a larger deck.
Can I take the box off my pick-up and put equipment on instead?
Yes, this can be done, but there are restrictions. The length of the equipment put on the truck must be the same length or shorter than the length of the box taken off. This is a requirement of Transport Canada. Raytel Equipment does not do this for any truck less than a one-ton with an eight-foot box.
Does Raytel Equipment install equipment on used vehicles?
Yes, Raytel Equipment mounts equipment on some used vehicles. Usually this is done with larger truck frames. Installing equipment on a used truck is more labour intensive and costlier than a new truck, so many customers purchase a new truck instead.
Does Raytel Equipment build custom equipment?
Raytel Equipment supplies and modifies equipment from manufacturers to meet customer needs. There is a high level of customization available for most products that Raytel Equipment supplies. On large-scale contracts, Raytel Equipment can custom-build equipment to meet fleet specifications.
